The Raleigh School
Good Times - Memories from the Class of 2014

Alternate text

We recently caught up with the Class of 2014 to ask them a few questions about their time at TRS. Here's what they shared.

What was your favorite field trip or project while at TRS?

  • I liked going to DC when we were in 5th grade. It was so much fun and sparked my love for the city.

  • The Million Dollar project because we could explore a real life application of a topic that is interesting to us. I did a bridal boutique!!

  • Sound to Sea. I just have such vivid memories of being entranced with the outdoors and really feeling excited and engaged. I love the outdoors and the environment so this was something that really ignited my passion for that. I also loved how we stayed in a cabin and was able to spend independent time with my our classmates

  • hmm i really liked Black Mountain because that was the first time any of us saw Wyatt wear pants

  • Prairie Ridge was one of my favorite TRS field trips because it felt like a natural extension of the TRS classroom (and not just because it was so close by). It gave me an appreciation for nature but we were also encouraged to explore things on our own, and I liked how we went each year so we could learn something new in a familiar area.

Tell us something you've been doing lately.

  • I earned my Girl Scout Gold Award, got a job and am going to Meredith College in the fall!
  • I have started some clubs at my school; one on Feminism, and one on mental health! I also lead a service committee on Women's Rights!
  • I have been to Thailand for three weeks.
  • I started dancing competitively and performed in Showstoppers National Opening Number :)
  • One cool thing I've done is compete in the Cheerleading World Championship in Orlando. My team placed 7th in the world.
  • I wrote a research paper on a German law regarding internet censorship and how it connects to immigration policy and the rise of far-right parties in the country.
  • Since graduating from TRS I have gone to Governor's School, sang in Honors Choir, done the School Musical, started my own non-profit tutoring service, did over 1000 hours of service and led my own school service group.

Thanks to Sam Casino, a member of the Class of 2014, who is interning this year at The Raleigh School and pulled together this information highlighting his TRS classmates who are seniors in high school.

Lost and Found

This story will help you regain your belief in kindness, connections, and good detective work. In the spring of 2010 our Raleigh School fifth grades headed to DC. While they were there a camera memory card, belonging to the family of Olly Duckett was lost on the mall. Another family who was in DC participating in an annual walk for the Epilepsy Foundation, saw the memory card, picked it up, tucked it away with the intentions of finding the owner.

City of Brotherly Love Finds a TRS Friend

Since July, Andrew Glosson, Class of 2010 and his friends have been running a free laundry service at the Philadelphia houseless encampments that were set during the summer or 2020. These encampments have become communities in which vulnerable people are able to receive consistent food, medical care, and laundry services. This laundry service has grown from Andrew and his friends doing a handful of loads per week to become an amazing volunteer network of around 30 people - with laundry days for not only residents of the encampment, but for other at-risk and elderly members of the city's houseless population.

This network of volunteers believe that clothes and bedding mean warmth, health, and comfort. Things all people deserve. Some weeks they have helped by doing over 40 loads of laundry.
