TRS Alumni View EDUCATE + GRADUATE + CELEBRATE
The Raleigh School We've all been spending time at home over the past few months.
The Raleigh School also feels like home for our families, and for you as students and now alumni. Over the years, the community has grown and changed. Earlier this year we completed the new elementary playscape and this summer we are making adjustments to accommodate a safe return to campus. Our "can do" attitude is informing decisions as we plan for the 2020-2021 school year, including creative ways to stay connected. Changes for next year are still being developed; we will have smaller class sizes and will be using some of our on-campus spaces in new ways. We are scheduled for a return to TRS in late August, a return to our school home, complete with friends and nurturing teachers.
Yes, it will be different, but The Raleigh School has always been an innovator and has led the way in education for young children. We are excited to see the new possibilities and to get back home. We hope that TRS will always be a place you think of as home. Once we are able, we plan to have an on campus reunion to allow you to visit, see the new playground, and reminisce about your favorite school, your first home, away, from home.
TRS News Saying happy retirement to Jan Schnurr
It is with deep admiration that we announce the retirement of Jan Schnurr, effective June 2020. Jan, like a cat, has had more than one life at TRS. She was a parent, board chair and teacher while her children attended Raleigh Preschool, returning to the classroom later as a preschool teacher and then as a first-grade teacher. Jan has shared her deep love of reading and writing with her students to ensure that each student develops confidence as a reader and writer. You can send a note of good wishes to Jan at trsalumni@raleighschool.org. Colleen DuPre, beloved kindergarten teacher, retires
Our hearts are filled with gratitude as we announce the retirement of Colleen DuPre, effective June 2020. Colleen DuPre began at TRS as a parent, joined the faculty as a preschool teacher, and for many years has gracefully encouraged kindergarteners to share everything, look out for each other, play fair and be aware of the wonder in each moment. Send your congratulations or a memory to trsalumni@raleighschool.org. Building the BEE Kind Garden With the retirements of Mary Covington, Colleen DuPre, and Jan Schnurr at the close of this school year, along with Steve Sather in 2019, TRS wanted to do something extra special to honor these four amazing educators. Collectively, they have taught for over 120 years! They have made an enormous difference in the lives of countless children and families with their care, compassion, and creative teaching.
The BEE Kind Garden will be located between the third grade and kindergarten buildings. It will be home to birds, butterflies, and blooming flowers, things beloved by Jan, Colleen, and Mary. This pollinator garden will also be the new home for our flagpole and flag, a mainstay of anyone who passed through Steve's third grade classroom. We hope all who walk by and those who sit to reflect on the garden bench will remember to be kind to all creatures great and small. We wish our retirees many peaceful days ahead - we are indebted to you all!

TRS Virtual Shopping
We are exploring the possibility of launching a way to shop virtually for the holidays. Our goal is to connect TRS locally-owned businesses to other TRS families. If you have an online business and might be interested in this opportunity, please email us at trsalumni@raleighschool.org. We will see what response we get and let those interested know more. It may be more difficult to shop in person this year and this would give the added bonus of shopping local, TRS local! Forward this eNotice to a friend. View this eNotice in your web browser. |
