Head of School & Board of Trustees
"My love for The Raleigh School is deep and abiding. I believe in our singular mission so strongly, and I've seen the power of this approach to education in the lives of my own daughters, who are adults now. I'm delighted to be keeping The Raleigh School Way front and center this year and to continue to help build this community which nurtures all those who enter it. I hope you will visit us and see this special place for yourself."
Anne Bryan, Head of School
B.A., Meredith college
M.A., Duke University
Anne has a long history with The Raleigh School. Her family first joined the school community in 1988 when her older daughter came to the Parent/Child class at Raleigh Preschool. Nine years later, in 1998, her daughter and her 11 classmates were the first graduates of The Raleigh School. Anne's younger daughter followed in 2000. In between, Anne served the school in a variety of ways. She was co-founder of the elementary school. She was also Personnel Chair and room parent, and she and her husband served as co-chairs of the Board of Directors for three years during the time that the new campus was bought, designed and built. Some years later, Anne returned as community representative on the Board of Trustees.
Anne's career and lifelong passion have centered on creating and sustaining opportunities for children to get off to the best possible start and to reach their fullest potential. She worked early in her career with the Governor's Crime Commission and with the NC Department of Public Instruction; then co-founded and was president and CEO of Exploris (now Marbles) and Executive Head of Exploris Middle School (now The Exploris School); and later served as Senior Policy Advisor to Gov. Bev Perdue where she focused on children's issues. Anne is an active community volunteer. Among her recent volunteer roles, she served as trustee of Meredith College and as outreach chair for her church where she has in the past few years helped initiate service programs empowering young people in Rwanda, Uganda, Haiti, and here in Raleigh. Anne enjoys spending time with her family at the coast and especially revels in their sailing adventures.
