Community Partnerships

                                       Meredith College – Raleigh, NC

At The Raleigh School, we believe in partnering with organizations that share our values and goals in order to make a positive impact in our local community and beyond. Back in 1965, we partnered with N.C. State University to conduct one of the earliest Head Start teacher training programs in the state. By observing and learning from experienced teachers, child development students gained valuable insights into how to teach a class of sixteen children at Raleigh Preschool.

Today, we remain committed to nurturing the next generation of educators who embody the values and principles of The Raleigh School Way.

Meredith College Intern Playing with Preschool Children at Table

Today, we remain committed to nurturing the next generation of educators who embody the values and principles of The Raleigh School Way. Through our more than 40-year partnership with Meredith College, undergraduates pursuing a degree in Child Development have the opportunity to observe our teachers in action, learn their teaching methods, and gain a deeper understanding of high-quality, progressive, early childhood education. This year alone, more than 25 Meredith students will be spending time in our preschool and elementary classrooms, grades preschool through first grade.  For these students and for generations of Meredith students before them, The Raleigh School serves as the gold standard for their own teaching and parenting practices.  During a recent visit to Meredith College, our Head of School overheard an undergraduate who had completed a placement at TRS describe our school as heaven on earth!  We couldn’t agree more.

North Carolina State Partnership

Children playing on the Naturalized Preschool Playground

The Raleigh School has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with NC State’s Natural Learning Initiative (NLI), serving as a naturalized demonstration site and actively supporting and benefiting from NLI’s pioneering work. Since 2000, NLI has brought landscape design thinking and community engagement to underserved communities across North Carolina and beyond, with a mission rooted in equity and access to nature. As a demonstration site, The Raleigh School exemplifies NLI’s evidence-based best practices for creating naturalized environments where diversity in physical space promotes inclusive, equitable learning and play. Co-founded by Robin Moore and Nilda Cosco, NLI’s work is grounded in the foundational text Natural Learning (1997) and continues to advance community-based design that nurtures healthy habits, a love of nature, and holistic development for all children and their families.
