Carnival and Silent Auction
This annual community-building event is a Raleigh School tradition and takes place each spring. The fun-filled day features a silent auction, arcade-type games, inflatable rides, face painting, a preschool games section, arts & crafts, a talent show, an ice cream eating contest, funnel cakes, pizza and more. It is a wonderful opportunity for school families and friends to enjoy the beautiful campus and spend time together. We also reconnect with our school alumni at the carnival. Our graduates love returning to the campus and seeing their former teachers as well as old friends. The alumni committee hosts a special homecoming celebration for graduates of The Raleigh School who are seniors in high school at the time of carnival. Parent volunteers are responsible for coordinating the carnival which not only brings our extended community together, but raises funds for our school.
Family Science Night
This special event provides an opportunity for elementary school parents and children to engage in hands-on science activities that make science concepts not only educational, but fun! Interactive experiments may include:
- Gummi Bear Long Jump
- Build-A-Bug
- Super Sleuth
- Puff-Mobiles
- Milk Color Explosion
- Operation Egg Drop
This wonderful learning experience is organized by our elementary school faculty team.
Multi-Cultural Feast
This is a whole school event organized by the diversity committee. During the school day students engage in activities aimed at exposing them to different cultures or encouraging social action. These activities may include performance based activities in which students serve as an audience as well as more interactive activities that engage students in learning about important topics related to cultures around the world. In the evening, a feast allows us to celebrate the diversity of our Raleigh School families and friends. Families are encouraged to bring a dish or dessert to share which is representative of their cultural background. The evening includes time for sampling and socializing as we work to build a strong and diverse community.
Parent/Family Socials
Each year room parents organize parent and/or family socials that are often held at the beginning of the school year as well as the end. These relaxed gatherings are a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to get to know each other outside of the classroom environment. Families look forward to these events and the bonds that are formed over the years with one another. The school community is strengthened through the time families and parents share with one another at picnics, pot luck dinners, and other evening socials.
Preschool Sing-A-Long
Each year on the first Wednesday in May, preschool families gather together for the all-preschool picnic and sing-a-long. At the Sing-A-Long, families picnic on the lawn, nosh at the watermelon table, borrow shakers from the community instruments basket, and sing and dance along with our wonderful music teacher, Mr. Vettel. The Sing-A-Long happens during the hour between morning and afternoon classes, so that children and families from all of the different class configurations have a chance to be together and enjoy each other.
Thanksgiving Feasts
At the preschool the four year old classes traditionally have a Thanksgiving Feast. The children invite parents and family members to come and share food and take part in a brief program. The children sing songs and write about all that they are thankful for. It is a nice time for families to get together and it allows the children to share in the excitement of the season with others.
